
Dr. Kathleen Hawk is the Director of the Security and Foreign Affairs team. Prior to joining the Commission, Kathleen served in a number of roles in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. She is a retired Navy Reserve Information Warfare officer.
Previously, Dr. Hawk served as the Chair of the Political Science Department and Director of the Global Understanding Initiative at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In addition to administrative duties, she taught a variety of courses in U.S. national security policy, international relations, and regional studies courses on Asia and the Middle East. She is the author of the book, Constructing the Stable State: Goals for Intervention and Peacebuilding (Greenwood Press, 2002).
Earlier in her career, Kathleen was a U.S. Foreign Service Officer and a Press Secretary for a member of Congress. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Alabama, and an M.A. in Latin American Studies and B.A. in Political Science (with a minor in Journalism) from The George Washington University.
